First coat of undercoat

First coat of undercoat, originally uploaded by Sams76.

This is pretty much how it is tonight. We're about to head back over for a second coat on the far wall and to start the first coat of real paint on the other three walls. It's going to be a long night. And, it's also probably the last time I'll post until about Wednesday. Glen has to organise with Telstra to connect the ADSL at the new house. This could take days, weeks, months, years. I exaggerate, but who knows when I'll be on again.

Hopefully by the time you see this room again, it'll look just as it should - purple in all its brilliance!

Smelly Cork Tiles

More Smelly Cork Tiles, originally uploaded by Sams76.

As you can see folks, this is corkboard we had to rip off the lounge room walls today. It was smelly and grungy and generally very unappealing. I am still dumbfounded at why some stupid moron would have put such a thing on the wall. It's just gross and did I mention, smelly?

Anyway peeps. I'm off to bed, but wanted to leave you with a bunch of photos we took today. Nothing overly exciting, just some progress pictures on the loungeroom wall. Should be nicer photos coming tomorrow as we will be applying some paint and hopefully beginning the feature wall.

Did I mention the feature wall was going to be PURPLE? hahaha! I can't wait. I finally get my purple wall. This house is so going to be trademarked 'Sam was 'ere! 2006'

Nightynight folks :)

Putty for snot...

We got the keys yesterday afternoon! Yay for us. I left work early to go over with Glen, and we immediately set about ripping those god-awful cork tiles off the loungeroom wall! The house was kinda disgusting actually. There was this rank smell in the loungeroom, which we discovered was the tiles. They ponged! Anyway, by the time we left last night, we had all but a handful of the tiles off the walls. In the process, we discovered that one of the tiles was hiding a huge hole in the wall - not surprising really. Also behind the tiles was a nice plague (?) of mildew, rampant across the wall!

Today, we packed the car full of stuff, including the dog. We drove over to the paint store, waited in line with a store full of angry tradesmen and one very flustered sales person - it was a wholesale store, so it offered trade prices, but it wasn't worth our time to keep waiting, when we needed someone to give us lots of advice. So, we walked across the road to another retail paint store. They were hugely helpful and we walked out of the store less $450!

By the time we got to the house, it was 9.30 - despite the fact that we left home just before 8am! A lot of fluffing around.

So, we spent the day pulling the rest of the tiles off the wall, sanding back the glue, mildew and residue tiles and trying to fill the holes in the wall. At one point, we decided that we needed a better sander, so I sent Glen to Bunnings for an el-cheapo. As I was closing the gate, a gust of wind came up the driveway and instantly, I was locked out. So, I waited for 20 minutes until Glen got home and he climbed in the loungeroom window. Mind you, we have inherited about 20 keys for this house! It's true!

Even though we've hit some snags today, we've made some good progress. Tomorrow, we're going to put the undercoat on and hopefully start painting the walls. God knows if the colours we picked will actually fit, or look good, but at this point, I'll be happy with anything!

Now, I'm going to get a tissue and blow all the dust from my noise! Pleasant imagery there, I know. Sorry, I guess! I'm finding it kind of amusing actually!!

PS: After spending the day at our new place, I'm starting to feel more at home. And it doesn't smell like mildewy-cork! Now...must update load some pictures.

Alzheimers...

We had our final inspection this afternoon. I have to say our agent is a complete fucking moron. We were there for 28 minutes - we were driving away on the 28th minute and all through the inspection, the agent was watching the clock, trying to hurry us up and carrying on like he had to be somewhere else. We didn't care and ignored him.

So, the part about the house. The house is fine. Thankfully, the power and gas were connected, so we could try everything. The carpets are well cleaned and quite nice. The revelation was that the cork tiling on the wall is in fact cork board - it's unsealed. So, should be easy to get it off. I just can't believe someone had that god-awful shit off the wall!! Anyway, the kitchen / dining area was a bit of a revelation. There's a wall unit type thing connected to the wall and it's god-awful disgusting. It's just a bit of a sham and it's going down!!

Outside, there's junk splattered across the carport and backyard. In the sheds, there is a shopping trolley and a spare oven! Don't have a freakin' clue why!! On the upside, there are stacks of fruit trees in the yard - some will have to go away to make room for my plans.

Anyway, there's a bit of crap left at the house, so we'll be filling up our garbage bins with the stuff. Very annoying, but a means to an end.

Tomorrow, I head to work until about 2.30 and then heading off to grab the keys, take a load over to the house and start pulling down the cork wall crap. Fingers crossed it works. I dare say that updating here will be very short, if at all. I'm a bit focussed now! I've placed a couple of photos on my flickr site, but they aren't overly interesting! Oh and yeh, there's a really bad shot of me in the loungeroom - try not to laugh.

It's the final countdown...

It's getting a bit tense here, me thinks. Tomorrow afternoon, we're heading over to the house for our final inspection of the house. It seems rather surreal. We're ready for it. More than ready, baby!

This afternoon, we mowed the backyard. Glen's been cleaning out the back shed and has packed a few more boxes and run some more errands. I think he's a bit tense though and seems stressed, as if he's not doing as much as he would like. But we're on track, well loosely. I mean, I don't feel stressed about it, in fact I just want to get it over and done with.

So, it's all going to start steamrolling ahead tomorrow, so I'll probably be very quiet, but I may post some pictures on my flickr page, so keep an eye out.

Suffice to say, it's becoming harder and harder to concentrate on work when I am at work - I just want to be home preparing and daydreaming!!

Also, can you keep your thoughts with Snazzykat, whose facing a really heartbreaking challenge this week. What should be the happiest moment in her life - giving birth to her first baby, is turning into a nightmare. You see, little Sammy hass HLHS, which is Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Pretty much as soon as little Sammy is born, he will face an operation on his heart. HLHS is a life-threatening condition, so there is a chance he may not make it - but there's also a large chance he will bounce right through it, as he's proving to be a strong little man! Anyway, keep Erika and Jay in your thoughts

Can't hold the licker...

Is it just me, or did everyone else think that Harrison Ford was a little bit more than tipsy on Rove tonight? The man was slurring his words and looked like he needed big sleepy-bo-bos!

The man doesn't seem to have much personality, which makes me think he IS a good actor!

Updating

Two things.

Check this out - new updates relating to weight loss etc will be here. Let's see if I can get my crap together enough to update two blogs. I normally have enough problems with this one! Argh!!

Secondly, it would appear that our house inspection which was to occur tomorrow afternoon will be pushed back to Thursday night. No one told us that the power/gas wouldn't be connected at the house unless we had it connected for the inspection. I would have thought the owner would have had it on because we were told that the owner would need the week to make sure everything was ok with the house - I would suggest that the stupid owner hasn't bothered. That's my thoughts on that.

Anyway, I'm trying not to get irritated, panicked, annoyed and generally pissed off about this stuff. We're so close, let's just get there. So, worst case scenario, we see it Thursday night, not Wednesday.

Ok, signing off. Gotta go pack some stuff shortly. Poor Glen was run off his feet today doing other small things and still hasn't had a chance to pack, or clean. No wonder his blood pressure is up!

Four more sleeps...

*bounce* *bounce* bounce*

Four more sleeps!!
Today, I spent a lot of time speaking with the conveyancer, working out what we owe. Interestingly, we need to draw four cheques! Grrr. Pain in the arse, considering three of the four need to be bank cheques. Our bank charges $8 per cheque! Grrr! Anyway, it's becoming sorted and on Thursday, Glen will present the cheques to her.

On Wednesday afternoon, we'll be doing our final walkthrough and Friday, at 2pm, the settlement will occur. So, at 2.30pm, I will have cut work and we'll be toddling off to the real estate agent for our keys! Wooooo!!!

Can't wait :) Absolutely no work got done today and I dare say tomorrow and the rest of the week will be the same. What a shame.

Losing my pants...

Ok, so I haven't lost my pants, but the way I am going, I will be walking along one day and I'll look down and my pants will be missing.

Today, I weighed in and it appears I have lost 600grams. This brings my grand total to 6kgs since January 5. That's about 6 weeks worth of weight loss. I feel pretty good about that, since more and more, I am noticing how bloody annoying it is to be wearing my work clothes. For starters, the waist on my pants is too big, so I can drag them over my hips without unbuttoning/unzipping them. I am definitely not enjoying the cuffs of my pants, dragging along the ground - even with shoes on!! It would appear that my hips were pulling up the pants and keeping my pant leg cuffs off the ground. Bah humbug!! The other catch is very simple - I have packed all my skinny clothes, so I haven't got a clue as to whether I can fit them now!!

Obviously it's Valentine's Day. I spent the day wondering whether I would be getting something. You see, I have the advantage/disadvantage of knowing what goes in and out of the bank accounts! So, I knew that the accounts were untouched. Anyway, I arrived home and low and behold, there was a dozen red roses. We had dinner tonight at our favourite restaurant and now we are home, digesting and feeling very full. A delightful V-Day well spent.

In other news, we have scheduled our walk through for the house for next Wednesday. The agent is such an asswipe, numnuts. He tried to defend the tenants, saying they were great tenants, like I gave a damn! Honestly, the tenants might have paid their rent on time and all that guff, but they held up our processes with the bank, with the building inspector and ultimately with our deposit. So, Mr Numnuts, fucktard, fool can eat dirt. He's so cad and full of himself, and he is so clueless.

Test

Robbing from the poor, paying the errr poor...

This has been all over the news today.

I'm not going to weigh into it too much for obvious reasons. I am going to say that these organisations who are contracted by the Government are largely working with a group of people who have a lot of barriers and who need help, above and beyond the help of any standard labour hire company, such as this behemoth.

I know that this program has had a long and checkered history, with its beginnings in the old CES to now, with about three variations of the contract in between what it is today. Since the privatisation of this program, there have been many who have jumped on the bandwagon and in all honesty, this program made them into overnight millionaires who still service the contract. Others made short term profit and were busted for milking it for whatever it was worth, until the point it is at today - strict guidelines, little movement in the contract and less fees - it happens anywhere. It's the nature of the beast. But the evolution of this contract has seen it finetuned and over an eight-year period, it has evolved into the beast it is today.

In short, it was probably a learning process and this news article today, although rightly published because any news is worth publishing, it must be remembered that a contract which has evolved over a long period of time in order to iron out the creases, will become so complex, that it will confuse the bejeesus out of its suppliers. I also tend to think that in most situations like this, there is always more than one of the parties who must accept responsibility.

Now that I've put my two-bits in, it's time to hit the Publish button and get onto another entry - if I can think of one.

Stalking pays off...

We've been stalking our house for a couple of weeks. I confess, we're stalkers. We never stop because there are tenants in the house. Or, should I say, were in the house.

Yes people! The dreadful tenants are moving out today! We drove past and there was a big fat truck in our, sorry their driveway! Wooo!! It's becoming more real now. More realistic and not so very scary and uncertain.

We packed some more boxes today. We both feel like shit - my back decided today it would dis-align itself, so now I have a headache and a sore back and for some reason, poor Glen is tired and headachy. We're a pair of old ducks.

Not long now. Hopefully it'll all go smoothly now.

Recapping...

The last few days have been really stressful and busy. My manager has been in town and thus, everything runs at an hundred miles an hour. Thank god, she's gone back home now. And I will preface this line of thinking by saying she's a fantastic manager, but one who is very work focussed and seems to have a thought processor much like that of a Pentium 4 machine! Anyway, my brain and energy are both sapped and I have that glorious fatigued feeling and my eyes are burning their way through my skull! *laugh* Nothing that a good night's sleep won't fix.

************************************************************************

I have a set top box full of stuff we've recorded from TV this week. With the rating season back on, it seems like it is working overtime! So, I am struggling to keep up! We have Lost, Medium, Desperate Housewives, Judging Amy and whatever else I'm recording!! There are also shows like The 4400 and ER which the TV stations don't seem to be advertising. It's as if they don't want to draw attention to it, so that they've got a great excuse for pulling it off the air when it doesn't rate well. Either that, or they've spent all their advertising money on promoting TV shows which have no interest for me! Stupid networks.

************************************************************************

Not long until the house stuff starts to set in motion. We haven't any confirmation about the tenants moving out. In fact, our lousy agent hasn't contacted us at all. This is pretty standard for this agent. Made nice whilst trying to woo us, and then dumped us like a bag of potatoes. Having said that, I'll be harassing his fat arse early next week - tenants are due to leave 17th. I'm not really sure what to do about the situation, as it's a fine line for us. The tenants are difficult and the agent has fucked up, so there's potential for the tenant to ignore the order and stay at the house after the Notice to Vacate date. This is a sticking point for me and one which causes great stress and panic for me. Unfortunately, it's out of my control, but it's also going to affect everything I have finely controlled. Anyway, I'm doing my best to enjoy the positive parts of our house purchase/move.

On an end note, I know I owe a lot of people return emails. It's been hard to stay on top of work, maintain a relaxed homelife whilst packing and trying to fit in sleep. I'll try to respond to emails on the weekend, so please be patient. Tomorrow is 14 days and I guess it's just going to get busier and I'm going to be updating less.

Wednesday 8 February 2006

Better late than never...

It's been a busy couple of days, so forgot to check in and update my weigh-in details. I lost 400 grams yesterday, so it has taken my total to 5.4kg. Not bad, it's a loss and I'm pleased with that. I still don't feel like I have had a weight loss. The only thing I am noticing is that my clothes seem looser, but visually I look the same. I'm trying not to let it affect my goal.

There's no moving update, we're still packing and thankfully not finding anything unexpected. We did have an open for inspection on the rental place on Monday afternoon. It nearly drove me up the wall, people were milling around in the loungeroom where I was sitting watching TV, chatting about their weekend activities. Others left the front door wide open and let's not talk about people whinging and whining about there being a lack of wardrobe in the main bedroom - it's cheap rent people!!! Anyway, the agent said that he's received a few applications for the house, so we shouldn't have to endure that crap again.

Anyway, going to enjoy the rest of ER.

Sunday 5 February 2006

I have a point...or two...

Because I'm a lazy arse cow, I'm going to recap my weekend in point form.
  • We bought the secret to happy plants on Saturday. Secret, you ask? The secret is something from Bunnings called Skedaddle and river rocks. I got jack of pooper scooping from the big pot plants in the house, so I took the advice given on the forums and spent some money. The outcome can be seen here.
  • I managed to sabotage myself and consume half a chicken and chips from one of the take away places in the shopping centre. Later, I went on to consume chocolate etc. It has not been a good weekend.
  • In preparation for the walk through tomorrow afternoon, we vaccuumed, mowed, whipper snippered, cleaned the bathroom, laundry and kitchen and various other annoying activities. The place now sparkles, god knows why, it's not as if we have to really impress anyone, or push the place in an effort to rent it. After realising that, it put some perspective on things, so we stopped!
  • We packed a few more boxes, so now we have the bare essentials in cups and glasses and once I get off my butt, we'll have the same situation for plates and cutlery. We're doing better with the packing business, but there still feels like there is so much more to do and how many days are left?!!@ argh!
  • Can I whinge about how much freakin' cat hair I pulled off the lounges? Bloody hairy beasts of burden.

Newdoo

Newdoo, originally uploaded by Sams76.

In the spirit and tradition of 'newdoos', I am posting my latest hair update. I got it trimmed this afternoon and it's basically one length now, except for the front bit and some of the sides. It doesn't sound like it's really one length, but you know.

I've also posted another picture on flicker, which only family and friends can view. It's my first 'weigh-in' photo, so it also lists my current weight - not something I'm very proud of and not something I want to share with the entire world. However, it can only serve as an incentive to keep losing.

Currently, I have a headache, so it's time to relax, watch the latest Gilmore Girls and then retire to my most comfy bed. And yay verily yay, tomorrow is Friday. Tomorrow will also be 3 weeks, or 21 days to go... ;)
